Couples Counseling: To Stay Or Not Stay
You have gone through a lot to get to this point. Problems started a long time ago, maybe even at the beginning of your relationship. At first, you hoped that the love would be enough. Then you tried resolving your relationship problems. And then, you tried to accept things as they are. You agonized over the possibility of leaving, or staying and settling for unhappiness. You are not alone. There are 140 million Americans today, and one-fifth of them – that’s 28 million people – can’t decide whether to stay or leave.
I specialize in helping people like you make a choice between divorce and couples counseling.
Whether you are coming in alone or as a couple, I will help you explore all the facets of staying or leaving. This is not a couples therapy in a traditional sense. Whether to stay and try to save the marriage or leave and divorce is a decision made by each individual spouse. Therapy starts only when and if both of you decide to stay and work on restoring your marriage.
This decision making work requires an agreement to three months of therapy, with the divorce decision off the table until the end of this period. You will be seen together and separately within the same hour long session. Brief joint check-in is followed by individual consultations and the session ends with the joint check-out.
